Veszprém is a mid-sized town with around 60,000 inhabitants and serves as the center of Veszprém County. It offers everything a student needs, including a county library, two theaters, a shopping mall with a cinema, a zoo, and various cafés and restaurants.
Known as the “City of Queens,” Veszprém’s castle was once home to Hungarian queens. The historic center features Baroque buildings, museums, galleries, and the Archbishop’s Palace. While rich in history, Veszprém is also a modern university town. The Veszprém Arena hosts major sports events and is home to the renowned handball team, while local industrial parks attract international companies seeking fresh graduates.
The city is a cultural hotspot, hosting festivals such as Gizella Days, VeszprémFest, and the Street Music Festival. As the 2023 European Capital of Culture, it underwent a renewal, ensuring lasting appeal.
Located 110 km from Budapest and 15 km from Lake Balaton, Veszprém offers easy access to Hungary’s largest freshwater lake. Balatonfüred, 20 km away, boasts historic villas, while Tihany’s abbey and lavender fields add to the region’s charm.
