Rich historical landmarks

the City of Queens!

The city is as rich in historical landmarks as it is in program opportunities. One of the highlights is the Veszprém Castle and Castle District, located in the heart of the city, offering breathtaking views of the surroundings. The castle was one of Hungary’s most significant fortresses. Veszprém is known as the City of Queens because the bishop of Veszprém had the privilege of crowning Hungarian queens. These queens became patrons of the St. Michael’s Cathedral, Hungary’s oldest cathedral. Queen Gizella, wife of our founding king, St. Stephen, often stayed in Veszprém. Alongside the basilica, the Castle Hill features several notable buildings:

The castle also embraces contemporary art, with galleries such as the Modern Gallery – Vass Collection, Csikász Gallery, and the Dubniczay Palace, which houses the Castle Gallery and the Brick Collection.
