Strengthening Global Standing: University of Pannonia Rises in Times Higher Education Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) annual ranking is the most prestigious assessment of excellence among higher education institutions. This year’s results are particularly exciting, as 186 new universities have joined the competition, bringing the total number of participating institutions to over 2,000. We are proud that the University of Pannonia not only ranks among the top 5% of universities worldwide, but has also made significant progress, now placing in the 1201–1500 category, sharing this position with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) among Hungarian institutions.

The ranking is based on five key pillars, and the University of Pannonia demonstrated substantial improvement in three areas: teaching, research support, and research quality. Particularly noteworthy is the university’s research performance, where it ranked 777th internationally.

This achievement represents a step forward not only for the university but also for Hungarian higher education, and it proves that the University of Pannonia is becoming an increasingly important player on the international higher education map. The criteria and indicators underlying these international rankings are valuable not only because they provide credible information about our excellence to prospective students and partners, but also because they signal how we can further develop our educational, research, and innovation activities. As emphasized by Rector János Abonyi, these efforts highlight the outstanding quality of the university's training, research, and services at the international level, as well as the institution’s success in continuous improvement.
