Our human-scale and student-friendly university comprises five faculties, each offering top-notch courses supported by institutional research. The university inaugurated Prof. Dr. Janos Abonyi as Rector on 1 July 2024 the successor of Prof. Dr. András Gelencsér.
According to the National Higher Education Act, since November 2014, the operation of public higher education institutions in Hungary is headed by a Chancellor appointed by the Prime Minister, who is responsible for several operational areas, including technical management, IT and operations, in addition to financial management. The first Chancellor of the University of Pannonia was Gyula Kovács, a qualified agricultural engineer, from 1 January 2015, followed by Zsolt Csillag from 21 August 2019.
On 15 December 2020, the Parliament adopted the proposal on the Foundation for the University of Pannonia and the transfer of assets to the Foundation and the University. According to the law, from 1 September 2021, the public interest trust established by the government will exercise the founding and maintenance rights of the University of Pannonia, based in Veszprém, ensure the operating conditions and the realisation of the institutional development goals, and carry out asset management.
At the request of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Pannonia will include individuals with significant professional, business and political experience, who are able to enrich the existing academic knowledge. The five-member body will be responsible for the long-term goals of the institution, promoting continuous development and creating the conditions for modern and competitive education and research. At its meeting on 24 February 2023, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Pannonia decided on changes in the members of the Board of Trustees.
The Board of Trustees and the Supervisory Board of the Foundation for University of Pannonia unanimously elected Dr. Zoltán Birkner, Associate Professor at the University of Pannonia's University Centre in Nagykanizsa, member of the Board of Trustees, as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees and the Supervisory Board unanimously elected Dr. Péter Bartus, the operational director of the Foundation for the University of Pannonia and lecturer at the University of Pannonia, and Zoltán Szabadics, Associate Professor at the University of Pannonia and Chairman of the Board of BAHART Zrt., as trustees for the vacant seats on the Board of Trustees. According to Chapter IX, Section 12.3 and Sections 3 and 8 of the Statutes of the Foundation for the University of Pannonia, the mandate of the new President and the members of the Board of Trustees will be indefinite from 1 March 2023.
