The I. CoreComm Balaton Solar Boat Challenge was successfully completed

Balatonalmádi - Between 24 and 26 August, the University of Pannonia organized the 1st CoreComm Balaton Solat Boat Challenge. In the framework of the Solar Boat project, university students and researchers gained not only theoretical knowledge in the field of sustainable energy solutions, but also practical experience in the design, construction and operation of the boat.

10 teams entered the CoreComm Balaton Solar Boat Challenge, including two Hungarian universities, BME and Pannon University. During the four days of competition, the participants competed in six different types of events: match, ton's, speed, endurance, slalom and time trial.

The series of boat races, already known in international waters, was held for the first time in Hungary on Lake Balaton from 24 to 26 August 2023. On the initiative of the University of Pannonia, the Municipality of Balatonalmádi provided the venue for the event. The CoreComm Balaton Solar Boat Challenge was organised by the University of Pannonia, the European Capital of Culture Veszprém 2023 programme, the Hungarian Sailing Association and the Municipality of Balatonalmádi.

In the Endurance Race, three teams - Whisper Power Solar Team, Spectrum Solar Team and HVHL Adres Sonnebootteam - covered 61.1 kilometres. The Spectrum Solar team took the win, completing the distance in a remarkable 4 hours 4 minutes.

Grand Finale ranking: the pinnacle of excellence The final ranking gives a vivid picture of the highlights of the event. The Spectrum Solar Team took the coveted 1st place, standing out from the rest of the teams with their bravery and precision. Whisper Power Solar Team finished a split second place with Spectrum. The Dutch Solar Boat took 3rd place, their consistency earning them a deserved podium finish. The Pannon Solar Team, representing the University of Pannon, finished in 9th place with 78 points - their dedication, perseverance and creativity could be an example for all Hungarian teams in the future.
