This year saw the launch of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, jointly developed by Times Higher Education and Schmidt Science Fellows. Addressing the world's most pressing scientific challenges requires complex, interdisciplinary research and solutions. Close collaboration between disciplines has become an essential feature of modern science. This new ranking aims to assess and support the interdisciplinarity of higher education institutions.
For the University of Pannonia, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration among researchers is of utmost importance. The institution's placement in the 501–600 range reflects this commitment. Among Hungarian universities, it achieved the third-highest ranking. The competition included 1,023 institutions from nearly 100 countries, but only 750 met the stringent criteria required for a ranking position. The remaining institutions were designated as “reporters.”
Key requirements for inclusion included at least 100 interdisciplinary publications between 2019 and 2023, an excellent research team of at least 50 members, and activity in fields such as computer science, engineering, physics, or life sciences. The ranking methodology evaluates three main areas:
The scale and proportion of resources allocated to interdisciplinary research.
Administrative and bureaucratic support systems within the university.
Scientific publications, which account for 65% of the total score, underscoring the importance of quality research in institutional rankings.
The University of Pannonia performed consistently across all three categories, with its number of scientific publications and citations exceeding expectations given its size.
Since 2010, the Round University Ranking has been a strong contributor to the landscape of international higher education rankings. Nearly 1,200 institutions from 100 countries compete across four dimensions. Educational and research data carry the most weight, contributing 40% of the score, while international standing and financial stability each account for 10%.
According to the Round University Ranking (RUR) 2024 results, the University of Pannonia improved its global ranking by 26 positions, securing the 747th spot. In the research dimension, it advanced by 62 places. Currently, the university ranks among Hungary's top 10 institutions in all four categories assessed by RUR.
In subject-specific rankings, the university is the third-best in Hungary in engineering and the eighth in social sciences. In the education category, it ranks fifth nationally and 542nd internationally, thanks in part to its favorable student-to-teacher ratio.
Direct Student-Teacher Connections
The University of Pannonia prioritizes high-quality, direct interactions between students and teachers across its campuses in Veszprém, Nagykanizsa, and Zalaegerszeg. Personalized attention and the high standard of education ensure outstanding student performance and competitive knowledge.
